Itinerary
- The Cataract House, Old Falls Street
- Meet your guide in front of the Hard Rock Cafe to begin your walking and tasting tour. First, head to Cataract House – established in 1825 by the banks of the swirling Niagara River. In the days before the American Civil War, Niagara was a popular route for people escaping slavery in the south, and the hotel’s many African-American waiters would regularly help those in need on their way to find freedom in Canada. During those turbulent years, the hotel was leading a double life – as a luxury hotel and an important point on the Underground Railroad. Today, The Cataract House is owned by renowned local chef Bobby Anderson, who represented Niagara Falls as a contestant on Season 4 of Gordon Ramsey’s “Hell’s Kitchen”. The Dorothy Jean's fried chicken from Cataract House is being made exclusively for our tour!
- F Bites Cantina, Old Falls Street
- Chef Bobby Anderson’s name also sits above the door at the nearby F Bites Cantina. It was from here, back in 2009, that Bobby created his F-Bites program to empower his local community through the culinary arts. The F-Bites program reaches out to schools, community centers, detention centers, and jails, engaging with pupils, young people, and inmates, and encouraging them to better themselves through a love of food. The wings at Cantina are smoked and finished with a beautiful BBQ and chipotle sauce, making them deliciously moreish from the first bite to the last.
- Spot Coffee
- On route to this popular local coffee shop, learn the fate of the original Cataract House – where esteemed guests could once stand on their balconies and watch the swirling Niagara rapids roll and foam below. On arrival, you’ll have time to admire Spot Coffee’s impressive murals as your guide shares weird and wonderful facts about chicken wings.
- Anchor Bar
- You can find Anchor Bar outlets across the US today, but there’s only one original and it sits in downtown Buffalo. Established in 1935 by Frank and Teressa Bellissimo, Anchor Bar played a key role in the early popularity of the chicken wing. With a little butter, a dash of cayenne pepper, and of course Teressa’s famous secret sauce, Anchor Bar has enjoyed a huge local following from the very outset.
